Thanksgiving Greetings from CSS

Holiday Hustle & Bustle
Dear Friends of Community Support Systems,
We’re always busy around here, especially at holiday time!  This week alone, Ophelia Neale, our intrepid Senior Program Assistant, has signed up 40 children for the Adopt-An-Angel Holiday Gift Program. (There will be more to come.) All families were vetted to insure they met the project’s income guidelines.  And she’s been busy rustling up volunteers willing to play Santa as well (scroll down for more info on this project).
One day at the Baden Pantry this week (it’s open two mornings every week), 85 families were served a nutritious selection of food, including meats and fresh vegetables.  Our Accokeek Food Pantry topped out with 70 families! Approximately 300 families have signed up for holiday baskets through our two food pantries. Thanks to Catherine Brooks, Janice Diggs, & Bruce Swain for making this possible, along with a whole lot of other volunteers!!  This Tuesday was our monthly Mission Nutrition food distribution.  200 families attended!  More thanks in order for our fantastic volunteers!
Kim Burch, Program Assistant,  has been working at a brisk pace.  This week she helped a gentleman with rental assistance so that he could remain in his home.  Kim is the person responsible for our new, nifty difty, online electronic donation system which allows you to make both one-time and re-occurring donations.  Check it out:  (All donations truly appreciated!!)
All of the above in one week’s time, and we are not even taking into account our re-application to be members of the United Way of the National Capital Area, writing this newsletter, organizing for the Holiday Gift Wrapping Fundraiser (volunteers still needed!), interviewing folks for the CSS Assistance Fund, answering endless phone calls and providing phone referrals, helping a client house hunt, helping someone keep their electricity on, participating in the Prince George’s County Food Equity Council, etc.
This is CSS!  Never boring, always helpful.  Please consider lending a hand to the cause.  Any donation, no matter how small, will help us help our neighbors.  We encourage you to check out the easy online donation tool on our website. Choose any amount to give.  We’ll use it wisely and multiply its effect with the help of our great volunteer power.  If you prefer to send a check, our address appears below. Or give us a call about volunteering yourself.  301-372-1491.
Happy Thanksgiving!
