Easter 2016: Dates and Flowers

We will be celebrating a somewhat extended Easter Season this year:

Palm Sunday

Sunday, March 13:  Celebration of Palm Sunday, when Jesus entered into Jerusalem.  We have scheduled this celebration one Sunday in advance, so that the entire service.can be dedicated to this celebration.  (8:30 a.m. at Brookfield and 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel)

Sunday, March 20:  Passion Sunday.  Passion Week is the short final period in covering Jesus entrance into to Jerusalem and leading to his crucifixion on Mount Calvary.  This service will focus the events of Passion Week following Jesus entrance (Palm Sunday) and culminating with his crucifixion on the cross (Good Friday).  (8:30 a.m. at Brookfield and 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel)

Thursday, March 24:  Holy Thursday Community Worship Service with the New Hope Fellowship on their Nottingham-Myers Campus.  “Holy Thursday” (also known as “Maundy Thursday”) is the Thursday of Passion Week, one day before Good Friday (the Friday before Easter). This is the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with His disciples, known as the Last Supper and the First Communion.  Our Holy Thursday Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Nottingham-Myers Fellowship Hall with a meal of soup and bread.  The worship service and celebration of communion will proceed in the same location following the meal.  We encourage everyone to participate in this very symbolic service.  Transportation will be provided for those who do not feel comfortable driving at night.

Easter Sunday

Sunday, March 27:  Easter Sunday.  The Sunday following Good Friday is the day on which we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, hence some Christians prefer the name “Resurrection Sunday.”  Click this link to read more about the origins of Easter:  http://www.gotquestions.org/easter-origins.html
